ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY - CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY

Program Description

The Architectural Technology-Construction Technology Program prepares individuals to assist architects in developing plans and related documentation and in performing architectural office services. The program includes instruction in architectural drafting, computer-assisted drafting and design, construction methods and materials, environmental systems, building codes and standards, structural principles, cost estimation, planning documentation, visual communication skills, display production, and architectural office management.

The fundamental objective of the program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in architecture or in related construction fields.

Students are provided with a comprehensive architecture program, which includes the skills necessary to produce construction documents for both residential and commercial projects. The program also addresses code application and compliance, material selection and construction methods, structural design and analysis, as well as architectural design, planning and detailing. Coursework involves training on a variety of the latest computer-aided design software programs, including 3D modeling.

Graduates of the program are prepared to assume entry-level architectural positions. However, many of the program's graduates transfer to four-year institutions for advanced degrees.

To successfully complete the program, a candidate must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in all departmental courses.
